It should be obvious to most that to frenchify something is gallicise it or to make it French. That much is true, but did you know that in the nineteenth century to say that someone was ‘frenchified’ was not to say they were wearing the latest French fashions. It was to say something very different indeed. “I’ve heard that Lady A is frenchified,” might indicate that Lady A had contracted one of those nasty diseases affecting her most delicate parts. It’s off to the clinic with her, then, and we can cross her out of the Little Black Book.
So, what to do? Should I still call the blog ‘frenchified’? or would some readers think I’d be writing about crabs (not the eating kind)? I’ve decided to stick with it. You never know, I might just get some new readers by default.

Hi,
I came across your blog while seeking information about French director Luarent Tirard. Hence the hit on Le Petit Nicolas. Tirard is directing the movie.
My paternal great grandmother was Angelique Tirard. The family migrated to Canada en mass in the late 17th century, and I’ve never seen the name Tirard anywhere before I watched the movie, Moliere.
I would very much like to contact Tirard, but I don’t speak or write French (some Spanish and German though). The freaky thing is that I have a cousin who looks so much like the director he could work as his double as they are almost the same age.
So, what do you know about French cinema? Have any ideas as to how I can contact him?
Your blog is well done!
Hi Mimi,
thanks for your comment. You’re related to Laurent Tirard? Wow. I had a quick look to see if I could find any direct contact info but the best I could come up with was this link:
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1016687/contact
You may have to subscribe to go further but I see there’s a free trial so give it a go and see how you get on. Good luck, and let me know if it works. I can’t wait to see his version of Petit Nicolas!
Hello,
I love the idea of your blog and myself being very fascinated by the French culture as a foreigner, your approach towards writing about it is simply humourous.
I love reading your posts and hope that you will continue writing!
